Keep Calm & Eat Oatmeal

Oatmeal, possibly one of the most BORING foods around is quite possible one of the HEALTHIEST grains on earth.

I started eating oatmeal back when I was a freshmen in high school and ever since then, I have been obsessed with this super grain. I always eat my morning oats with a dash of cinnamon and cook the oats in the microwave when in a rush.

Oats are BENEFICIAL because they are a gluten-free whole-grain source of essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. Oats are specifically a whole-grain known as Avena Sativa. Oat groats are the MOST intact and whole form of oats – they take a long time to cook and this why most people prefer to eat their oats rolled, crushed or steel-cut.

Oats are jammed-backed with nutrients and are one of the best forms of carbs and fiber. Just 1 cup of oats contains¬†51 grams of carbs, 13 grams of protein, 5 grams of fat and 8 grams of fiber, but only 303 calories. This is why I eat oatmeal almost EVERYDAY because I believe it’s one of the most nutrient-dense foods you can eat.

Oats can improve blood-sugar control, are rich in antioxidants, contain a powerful soluble fiber, are very filling, may help with skin care, relieve constipation, lower cholesterol levels and even protect LDL cholesterol from damage.

So, have I convinced you to give oatmeal a try for breakfast? If you think oatmeal is boring then add dark chocolate, fruit, nuts or nut butters on top to spice up the flavor!
